Can You Put Resinous Flooring Over a Wood Substrate?
Can You Put Resinous Flooring Over a Wood Substrate? As downtowns are revitalized, it is becoming more common to renovate older buildings. These often become restaurants, bars, or breweries. Since older buildings typically have a wooden subfloor, many people wonder what type of flooring is best. Do you keep the old wood for character and risk the potential for staining or damage? Or do you put in flooring that will be more durable over time? And what can you confidently put over the top of the hardwood or plywood? This is a question we get a lot, so we thought it best to address it head on. With proper planning, you generally can put resinous flooring over a wood substrate. However, you don’t want just anyone handling this project. It’s not as easy as some might think. But first, let’s talk about why you might want a resinous system in the first place. Seamless, Non-Porous, Easy to Clean Wood, while
Commercial Concrete Repair: How Polymer Concrete Can Save the Day
Everybody’s got a concrete problem. Anyone who works in a commercial or industrial building can attest to that. Everyday wear and tear on warehouses, production floors, processing plants, parking decks, and many other facilities takes a toll. And businesses with forklift traffic can be some of the most vulnerable to cracks and spalling. Commercial concrete repair can be a challenge, both in the time it takes to find someone to do the job right and the time lost in shut downs to the areas in question. Costs can add up quickly and, in a few months, you may have to repair the same area again. Fortunately, there is a product that solves many of the issues associated with industrial concrete repair. RT-05 LM Polymer Concrete is your one-hour solution to any application where the strength of concrete is needed, but the job requires a quick cure, and extended durability is desired. One of the key benefits of polymer concrete is its ability
What is Resinous Flooring?
Resinous flooring, otherwise known as fluid-applied or poured flooring, is very common in industrial and commercial environments. Some of the benefits of resinous flooring are that its properties allow for a smooth, non-porous, easily cleanable surface that you cannot achieve with any material having grout or seams. In this post, we’ll cover the basics of resinous flooring, as well as a few of the different types of chemistries that can be used in commercial flooring applications, depending on the needs of the facility. Resins can be a natural or synthetic liquid substance and sometimes have a yellowish or brown color. Resinous flooring consists of specific resin formulas applied in several layers that bond together either adhesively or chemically. Once “cured” the layers form a hard surface which has various performance properties such as UV stability, abrasion resistance, or chemical resistance, among others. Let’s explore four of the most commonly used chemistries in resinous flooring and coatings along with some pros and cons of each.
Things to Consider When Choosing Commercial Kitchen Flooring
In commercial kitchens, the flooring is just as important as the oven and the chef. When it’s good, it makes the whole kitchen run more smoothly. But if it’s slippery, cracked or delaminating, it can cause a number of headaches. Bacteria can grow and pooling water can add to hazards for the staff. Unfortunately, flooring can be one of the last considerations when planning new construction or a remodel when it should be one of the first. In order to ensure a successful installation, and a long-lasting floor, you need to answer a few questions before the job starts. Here are some things you should think about when choosing the right commercial kitchen flooring. 1. Remodel or new construction? If the floor is being installed in a new construction project, the concrete needs to be fully cured, which can take up to 28 days. Some products can be installed over “green” concrete less than 10 days old. Remodels need to be evaluated by
Why You Need a Specialist When Choosing Commercial Flooring
So, what does epoxy flooring have to do with a band-aid? When you ask for a tissue, you might say “Hand me a Kleenex”. When you ask for a bandage, you might say “I need a Band-Aid”. These are actually branded product names that have come to be known as the actual item they represent. Epoxy has become the Band-Aid of commercial flooring. People search the internet for epoxy flooring, when what they really mean is resinous flooring or fluid-applied flooring. They may not realize that epoxy is just one type of resinous flooring, but it is certainly not the only kind and not always the best solution for a project. Most people think epoxy is “that stuff that looked great in my neighbor’s garage”, which is probably true. A lot of garages have epoxy coatings that do look great and hold up well under the conditions present in a home garage, which is minimal foot traffic, low impact and no hot liquids
Outdoor coatings that Cure in 1 Hour, even at Low Temperatures
Yes, we really have a coating system that cures in as little as 1 hour! Polyurethane modified methyl-methacrylate (PU/MMA) acrylic resins offer this and other outstanding benefits for virtually any application, no matter how large or small. Once installed, a DEK-Guard™ acrylic coating system resists deterioration, spans concrete cracking and joints, withstands temperature fluctuations, and is UV stable.
DEK-Guard™ is ready for full traffic one hour after the last coat, saving operational downtime. Application can even be done in colder temperatures down to -15°F using our low temperature formula.
Superior Elongation Properties: Concrete that has movement or vibration needs a flexible membrane to prevent cracking. DEK-650 Flexible Membrane achieves 450% elongation as performed by ASTM D638.
Easy to Repair: Repairs are simple and can be completed quickly thanks to the 1-hour cure. Since the product “melts” into itself through a chemical reaction, the original system integrity is maintained.
100% Solid, Non-porous, Seamless Finish: Moisture can ruin concrete. With DEK-Guard, liquids and most pollutants do not penetrate the coating, leaving a smooth, durable, easily cleanable surface.
Chemical Resistant: Resistant to a wide variety of chemicals, automotive fluids, salt and other aggressors. Please ask us about any specific concerns.
Worth the Investment: Parking decks are subject to so many chemical aggressors, it’s important to have a coating that can withstand oils, salts, and other automotive fluids without breaking down. With a DEK-Guard™ system, you can be assured your coating will last a long time and pay for itself several times over.
Layered System: Each system consists of a primer, flexible membrane, self-leveling body, and topcoat, with additional resins available based on your needs. Architectural and slip resistant finishes add aesthetic and functional features as well.
VOC Compliant in all US States: Once fully cured, a DEK-Guard™ system forms a 100% solid. No unreacted product remains.
Bond Test: Proper surface preparation is determined prior to system installation via a bond test. Patties are formed from a mixture of Res-Tek primer and sand, then placed in strategic locations throughout the prepared substrate. One hour later the patties are removed with a hammer and chisel.
The underside of each patty should have concrete attached confirming sufficient surface preparation. This simple test ensures a permanently bonded coating that will not delaminate.
